Popular Korean classical pianist in Silicon Valley May 28, 2018
Seong-Jin Cho is coming to Silicon Valley on May 28, 2018. Here at Steinway Society, we’ve been having fun preparing to welcome this highly-popular Korean pianist (California Theatre, 2:30 p.m.).
Most of the pictures we’ve included here are digital signs and displays in downtown San Jose. One is a
birthday card we’ve created (blank on the back) so patrons can express their best wishes to him at the concert.
By the way – as we write, there are still a handful of tickets left.
Seong-Jin Cho’s concert is eagerly awaited
This concert replaces two concerts scheduled in November, 2017. They were cancelled when Cho was asked to step into a vacancy with the Berlin Philharmonic because pianist Lang-Lang had to cancel. (Today – May 18 – Seong-Jin’s Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G Major with the Berliner Philharmoniker and Sir Simon Rattle was released).
Touring with the Berlin Philharmonic is just one of the wonderful opportunities this pianist has experienced since winning the Gold Medal at the International Chopin Competition in 2015. He has three top-selling CDs, including a recently-released Debussy CD which has received thrilling reviews.
On his tours he has been welcomed by royalty and lauded at sold-out concerts around the world. In April, 2018 he played three recitals with the world-famous German baritone Matthias Goernee at the Wiener Staatsoper, Opéra de Paris (Palais Garnier) and Wigmore Hall.
May 28 is Seong-Jin Cho’s Birthday
By the way, this gifted artist’s 24th birthday is the same day as his concert in Silicon Valley. How lucky are WE to be able to share this day with him. We’ve had to ask fans NOT to bring cake and balloons (the theater will not allow them in and, alas, they will be disposed of at the entry), but we are creating a big Birthday Box so people can put in cards they bring.
Some folks have asked how to give him presents, and while we all love gifts, he is flying out shortly after his Memorial Day concert so most gifts are impractical. (If you insist: Small gift bags brought by patrons between 1 -2 p.m. the day of the concert will be collected at the Box Office and taken backstage to Mr. Cho at 2:10).
A Great Way to Close Out Our Season
This May 28 concert is the close of a remarkable season for Steinway Society – The Bay Area. More pictures to come. Thank you to all our friends, sponsors, donors and patrons who have made it an extraordinary year.
