2019 Young Artist’s In-Home Concert

One of our favorite annual events!

Join us for the annual Young Artists in-home concert, featuring outstanding young Bay Area musicians. This in-home fundraiser supports our educational outreach, while showcasing four very talented young performers, Rin Homma, Jonathan Hou, Catherine Jian, and Conor Padmanabhan.

WHEN: Sunday, April 28, 2019 at 3pm
WHY: Support Steinway Society Community Outreach
WHERE: This event will take place at a private home in Saratoga, CA, so seating is limited. A reception following the program will include gourmet delights and fine wines from the host’s personal collection.
PLAYING: Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Diabelli, Grieg, Gubaidulina, Mozart, and more

Suggested minimum donation of $50 per person. Please be as generous as you can. Steinway Society is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization

Catherine Jian

Catherine Jian

Catherine, a third-grader at Challenger School – Strawberry Park, has been playing the piano for three years. Her teacher for the last two years has been Mrs. Lena Grozman. Catherine won first place in the 2019 CAPMT District 2 Honors and Contemporary Music competitions, as well as the 2019 USOMC Showcase Solo Competition. A recipient of the Challenger School scholarship for three consecutive years, Catherine loves school. In addition to piano, her hobbies include reading, ballet, rock climbing, and golf.

Rin Homma

Rin Homma

Fourteen-year-old pianist, Rin Homma, currently a student of Hans Boepple, was previously a scholarship student at the Colburn Conservatory in Los Angeles. At age six, she performed at San Diego’s 65th Annual Salute to the Champions. Rin’s numerous awards include first prizes at the 2014 U.S. Open Music Competition, 2016 MTAC Solo State Competition (Division I), 2017 MTAC Concerto State Competition (Division I), the 2018 Pacific Musical Competition, and the North Regionals of the 2018 MTAC Concerto State Competition (Division II). In January 2018, she was the guest soloist with the professional San Francisco Chamber Orchestra. Rin enjoys watching movies, drawing, playing video games, and, most of all, spending time with her four siblings.

Conor Padmanabhan

Conor Padmanabhan

Conor, a fifteen-year-old guitarist, is a student of Scott Cmiel in the Pre-College Division at San Francisco Conservatory of Music. His prizes include the 2019 National Young Arts Foundation competition, the 2018 California Statewide guitar competition of the American String Teachers Association, and the 2017 International Great Composers Competition Series for Best Bach Performance. Conor has performed as a soloist in the annual Junior Bach Festival for six consecutive years, as well as at the University of Hawaii Maui College, and in professional concerts for the South Bay Guitar Society in San Jose. He regularly performs at a local assisted-living center and in various benefit concerts, and plays in a guitar quartet at the Conservatory. Conor attends high school in Palo Alto, where he serves as an academic tutor and enjoys hanging out with friends.

Jonathan Hou

Jonathan Hou

Jonathan Wang Hou is a junior at Menlo School, where he has soloed with the Menlo School Orchestra and is also principal violist. He began piano lessons at age six and currently studies with Anna Semyanovsky. Jonathan’s original works for chamber ensemble, orchestra, and piano have been performed at international competitions, symposia, and festivals. He won first prize in the 2018 international Vienna Golden Key piano composition competition and was a finalist in the Tribeca New Music competition. His prizes in piano competitions include the 2018 Thera Rabinowitch Memorial Competition, USOMC, and the Junior Bach Festival. Jonathan loves backpacking, reading, painting, physics, and language, is editor of his high school literary magazine, and has won state competitions for his acrylic paintings.
