Home Concert Hall

If we can’t bring you to the concert hall, we’ll bring the concert hall to you.

COVID-19 is still with us, but we’re not going to let it prevent us from presenting our 27th season of outstanding classical piano artists. That’s why we’ve worked closely with our season’s grand pianists to bring their unique performances directly to you this Fall.

Our Home Concert Hall series includes video recordings produced specifically for Steinway Society – The Bay Area of performances not available anywhere else on the Internet. This Fall’s repertoire includes Beethoven, JS Bach, CPE Bach, Brahms, and Chopin.

Click on the artist below for more details about each performance.

Each artist will present about an hour of music in a specially recorded video. Viewers will be able to view the recording as many times as they wish during the four-day performance window. The artists have been invited to give a short talk before the performance about the pieces chosen, and to share information about their musical lives, including updating how they have been faring during the pandemic. Noted Bay Area classical music expert Dr. Gary Lemco, host of the KZSU weekly Musical Treasury program, will share his thoughts about the program in a specially recorded pre-concert lecture.

Every seat is a front row seat

You can’t beat the front row view provided for each of these performances. And we’re making these concerts available at the low ticket price of $20 per household per concert. Or, watch the entire four-concert series for the package price of $60.

Don’t miss this opportunity to experience these outstanding global artists performing some of the world’s greatest works for classical piano. Buy your tickets now.

Our 26th Season is sponsored by the Music Teachers of California (MTAC) Santa Clara Branch, in memory of Ms. Frieda Ann Murphy, a long-time member.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why are you presenting these virtual performances?

We want to bring these outstanding artists to you. The pandemic has changed many aspects of our lives, but we don’t believe it should stop arts lovers from enjoying live musical performances. We can’t bring these artists to San Jose in the flesh, so this is the next best thing—and it ensures each viewer has a front row seat for every performance.

Why will these be video recordings instead of livestreamed concerts?

After reviewing the available options, we believe video offers a better alternative for guaranteeing a high quality viewing and listening experience. Livestreaming involves technical challenges and is often constrained by bandwidth availability. We aren’t willing to risk the possibility that some of our audience would be unable to fully enjoy each performance.

Why is there a four-day viewing window?

Our artists have graciously allowed their performances to be available for more than the normal single performance date. Each concert will be available for a long weekend—from Friday through Monday—and audience members will be able to enjoy the concert on their own schedules throughout that time.

How many tickets do I need to purchase?

Each ticket allows an entire household to watch the performance as many times as is desired during the four-day viewing window.

Can I download the performance or save it for future viewing?

To allow our artists to maintain control over their work, downloads and/or recording of the videos are not permitted.

Some organizations are offering free virtual performances. Why are you charging for these concerts?

We applaud those musical organizations that are bringing virtual performances of classical music to the world at no cost to the audience. Unfortunately, we don’t have the financial resources or endowment to do that.

Many artists have been greatly impacted by the pandemic, as they have not been able to travel or give the in-person concerts that were scheduled for 2020. It is important to us that we do everything we can to support these performers through this challenging period. We are committed to fairly compensating our artists for their contributions, and we also need to cover as many of the costs required to host these events as possible. Therefore, while we can’t offer concerts without a fee, we have set ticket prices that are significantly less than our prices for in-person events.

Will the ticket price cover your expenses?

Ticket sales cover only a portion of our expenses. We rely on the generosity of our donors and sponsors to help defray remaining costs. This year we are particularly grateful to the Music Teachers of California – Santa Clara Branch for their generous sponsorship of our season through the Frieda Ann Murphy Memorial Fund. We are also most appreciative of your donations to support our ongoing efforts. More information on donations.
