PROGRAM NOTES
YouTube Star and Chopin Competition Sensation Comes to the Bay Area

Hayato Sumino, one of today’s most exciting young pianists, brings his signature blend of classical mastery and modern artistry to Steinway Society – The Bay Area. A semi-finalist at the prestigious 18th International Chopin Piano Competition in 2021, Sumino has since become a global phenomenon—garnering millions of fans worldwide through both his live performances and digital presence.

Known online as “Cateen,” Sumino’s YouTube channel boasts over 1.5 million subscribers and nearly 200 million views, thanks to his innovative interpretations, flawless technique, and genre-crossing arrangements. In 2024, he sold out major concert halls across Japan and made a triumphant debut at London’s Royal Albert Hall, receiving widespread critical acclaim.

Now signed exclusively with Sony Classical, Sumino released his debut album Human Universe in November 2024 to rave reviews. His musical contributions extend beyond the concert stage, with work featured in film and television scores—marking him as a defining artist of his generation.

Don’t miss this electrifying performance from a rising star whose bold style and heartfelt expression are redefining what it means to be a classical pianist today.
