Activities and Goals of Community Outreach and Music in Education
Throughout the year, we conduct three types of outreach and educational programs: concerts in schools, in-home concerts, and master classes. Here are our goals for each type of activity.
Concerts in Schools
- Bring inspiring musical experiences by professional musicians and college student performers to schoolchildren of all ages, with a special focus on schools without music in their curriculum.
- Provide performance opportunities for college music majors in school settings to aid in preparing them for their future role in our society.
- Support professional musicians in our own community by engaging them to perform for a modest fee.
- Provide an outreach opportunity to artist-pianists on the SSBA concert series who enjoy performing for young audiences.
In-home Concerts
- Give audiences of all ages and backgrounds (current and new) a chance to experience piano music in an intimate setting.
- Provide outstanding young pianists in our community opportunities to develop their performance skills in an appreciative setting.
- Create experiences where attendees may be inspired to contribute financial support to the school programs mentioned above.
Master Classes
- Provide opportunities for highly motivated advanced level piano students to play for and receive feedback from world-class artists.
- Offer the opportunity for amateur pianists and piano lovers of various backgrounds to audit these master classes.
- Involve local piano owners who would like to host such inspiring events in their homes.
- Engage with artist-pianists in the SSBA concert series who enjoy working as a master teacher with developing young pianists.
